Africa's Geography

•Of mainland Africa's 10 richest countries (the only ones with annual per capita GDP over $3,500) 9 lie partly or entirely within its temperate zones
 - North: Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, and Morocco
 - South: Swaziland, South Africa, Botswana, and Namibia
 - Tropical: Gabon

•Nearly a 1/3 of countries of mainland Africa are landlocked this slows development as they don't have a port to transport things
 - 15 out of  47

•The only African river navigable from the Ocean for long distances inland is the Nile

•Waterways provide the cheapest way to transport cumbersome goods so once again Geography thwarts Africa's progress

•Africa has an abundance of resources:
 - Rivers of central Africa are great generators of hydroelectric power
 - Big animals are a major source of ecotourism revenue in Eastern and Southern Africa
 - Forests in the wetter regions (if managed and logged sustainably) would be renewable sources of income
