Limited coal and oil reserves – most of their supplies are imported

Coal mining stopped completely in France in 2004

Energy production from oil is still high due to demand for transport fuel

Natural gas use has increased by over 50% since 1990 – still below 24 %EU average

Invested in Nuclear power in the 1970s to secure energy supplies

Biggest producer of nuclear power in the EU, 2nd biggest in the world

Most of Frances renewable energy comes from hydropower and biomass

Nuclear is at 41%

Coal is at 5%

Oil is at 33%

Natural Gas is at 15%

Renewables is at 6%
